Matt Cole, president and owner of 3 Phase Associates of Chattanooga, TN, has partnered with a local electrical construction company, Tri-State Electrical Contractors, and Bryan Sutton (owner and one of two original founders), to perform several turnkey engineering, procurement, and  construction (EPC) projects for multiple manufacturing, industrial, and large commercial facilities. The goals of Cole and Sutton were to save customers costs, time, and resources in tracking and managing projects performed by multiple entities, where 3 Phase Associates and Tri-State Electrical came together as one to perform the turnkey EPC projects.

A recent project involved the City of Chattanooga’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. 3 Phase Associates was tasked with performing the AC load study and power demand (with Arc Flash Analysis) along with engineering and design drawings and project management for upgrading the city’s main 12kV to 480V power delivery and controls systems to newer state-of-the-art systems to allow for better power quality and reliability along with more alarming and remote control capabilities. Tri-State Electrical performed the procurement, construction, and construction management along with testing and turn-up for safely performing isolation and demolitions to upgrade to new electrical switchgear with supervisory controls and fiber ethernet communications.

Such a partnership provides dividends by combining experience and expertise in carrying out projects seamlessly. It can be applied to projects large or small, complex or simple, whether involving electric power delivery, SCADA automation, PLC controls, telecommunications systems (fiber optics, microwave radio, low frequency 900MHz radio, wide area networks, Wi-Fi communications, etc.), or transmission and distribution (T&D) substations, renewable solar power, etc. 3 Phase Associates has professional engineers licensed in nine states in the southeast: AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN, and TX. Tri-State Electrical Contractors have several licensed electricians with both small and large heavy construction equipment, and they are also licensed in three states in AL, GA, SC, and TN.
